Needle Felted Kingfisher

A handsome kingfisher sculpture has been needle felted using woollen fibres. The fibres are bound together and sculpted into shape using a barbed felting needle and a needle felting technique. After creating the initial shape using white core wool, a top coat of blue and orange merino wool fibres added with appropriate markings around the head. The legs are formed from wool wrapped wire, the eyes are beaded and a beak made from air dry clay has been added.

The kingfisher has been mounted on a perch, also needle felted, with a rustic wooden base. The kingfisher is roughly life sized with the ornament as a whole measuring approximately 24cm tall.
